“Ecodur 201 roof coating achieved a pull test result in excess of 115 pounds in an industry where the generally accepted minimum in a dry test is four pounds,” said Castagra Products, Inc. CEO, Peter Roosen.
“Not only that, Ecodur outperformed a leading national coating brand by a wide margin. Examinations of test site coatings applied 25 years ago shows no sign whatsoever of degradation in adhesion and, in the case of it being applied to wood, the bond is, for all practical purposes, an indefinite one because Ecodur molecularly bonds with cellulosic materials.”
Roosen said the latest results achieved in testing by Copa Coatings are exactly in line with previous ones. “Only in this case, they were so high, they exceeded the maximum available reading on the instrument.”
Castagra’s Ecodur is a VOC free, BPA free, non toxic coating made from castor oil and naturally occurring gypsum rock. It permanently retains not only its elongation values, but also its ability to have new coats bond to original Ecodur coatings, making maintenance and repairs highly cost effective.
“Ecodur’s extreme adhesion is across the board, including a famous non-stick one, but, typically we are coating common roofing substrates as the primer, and concrete in water, wastewater facilities, and steel in other major structures.
Over one thousand tanks in the oil and gas industry have been coated, mainly in the oil fields of the US where fracking production techniques have exposed many tanks to a complex variety of corrosive chemicals, including acids.
“Our primary market is roofing where adhesion, waterproofing, and longevity are the main considerations. The economics of flat-roofed buildings have changed dramatically in recent years where performance of coatings such as ours, make sustaining a roof by re-coating often economically the best option rather than replacing the roof, or completely tearing down the building,” commented Roosen.
“Ecodur is, arguably, the highest performing primer roof coating on the market today, and, certainly, the one with the best green credentials.”
Pull tests generally involve applying a minimum of 20 mils of roof coating on the prepared or primed surface of about 12 inches by eight inches. Into this a strip of polyester fabric six inches long by one to three inches wide is placed onto the roof coating with at least two inches exposed free of the coating for attachment to a pull test gauge. On top of the original coating goes another of the same thickness, making sure the fabric is well wetted. Three days of curing and drying minimum should be allowed for all the test strips.. In the test, the fabric is pulled at a 90° angle to the substrate surface. In these recent tests a WeiHeng test gauge was used.
