Ecodur Proving To Be a Tough, Cost-Cutting Solution For Aquaculture Ponds

Phoenix, AZ, April 3, 2018 – “Aquaculture has assumed a major role in feeding billions of people worldwide and the importance of maintaining purity and cost-effectiveness in the rearing environment will only grow too,” states Castagra Products, Inc. CEO, Peter Roosen.

“We are particularly gratified with six-year performance results at a rainbow trout rearing facility in Arizona where Ecodur, as a pond lining membrane, has been shown to dramatically cut repair costs that often plague such fish farms.

“Ecodur slashed a 150 gallon a minute leak to zero and no significant repairs were required at all during this period, and, likely not for at least another six years.
“It was originally chosen because of its demonstrated high performance in the oil and gas, water and wastewater industries where it has coated the insides of hundreds of oil and production water tanks and concrete structures.”

Roosen said that Ecodur’s zero VOC, zero BPA, chemically inert state and ANSI/NSF-61 rating for contact with human drinking water, makes it an ideal choice for the pond and tank-based aquaculture industry.

“It can be manually applied or sprayed. With double the adhesion of many conventional epoxy coatings, it is also ideal for going onto geo-textiles if an extra tough lining is required.”
Roosen said that the majority of large-scale fish rearing is focussed on freshwater varieties, particularly in Asia where China provides 62% of the world’s farmed fish. In the West and Europe, Atlantic salmon production is worth around $10 billion annually and rainbow trout production continues to grow. In Russia, in the Leningrad area, 43 fish farms produce 98% of the country’s rainbow trout. Globally, rainbow trout production is worth $3.8 annually.

The overall global aquaculture market was valued at US$176.45 billion in 2017 and is expected to grow at a CAGR of 4.46% to reach a market size of US$219.42 billion by the year 2022.
“Aquaculture is an intensive farming technique. As it relates to fish, hygiene and keeping the stock parasite-free is paramount. Many Atlantic salmon farms came in for heavy criticism over claims that wild stocks of salmon were being badly affected by parasites causing a very high death rate on juveniles.

“Ecodur’s contribution is providing a tough, neutral, high performance base membrane for tanks and ponds that will ultimately lower maintenance repair costs and facilitate cleaning operations as it can be hosed and brushed down for removal of the sludge built-up without breaking down.

“Clearly, in many instances, its ability to completely stop up leaks and provide better integrity for the substrate, is also highly important where ground anomalies make it difficult for many conventional membranes to remain intact.
