Castagra’s Veggie-Plastic Ecodur Spreading Across the Globe as Green Coatings Market Burgeons

RENO, NEVADA, NOVEMBER 3, 2016 – A unique protective coating, Ecodur, that is made from vegetable oil and naturally occurring gypsum and has proven itself on ships and hundreds of oil and production water tanks, is now driving into foreign markets.

Ecodur is in Canada, Antarctica, Mexico, Chile, Brazil, Sweden, China, UK, Kazakhstan and Germany, where it is being applied in oil tanks, ship decks and flooring.
“The green coatings movement is inexorably progressing across the globe as consumers and legislators demand freedom from toxic Volatile Organic Compounds and solvents while maintaining performance levels,” commented CEO and Chairman, Peter Roosen.

North America is the global center for major green coatings manufacturers. The global green coatings market is forecast to be worth USD 116.4 billion by 2018, growing at a CAGR of about 5.6%.
“Ecodur has proven itself in one of the toughest industrial environments there is in North America, the fracking industry where it has coated many hundreds of oil and production water tanks that expose it to a range of chemistry and conditions that have defeated most conventional coatings.

“Ecodur has also proven itself in the harsh marine environments as deck coatings on ferries an even one of the world’s largest frac exploration ships where conventional coatings have been failing in a matter of weeks.”

Roosen said Ecodur can, in simple terms, be thought of as inert, plasticized rock, benefiting from the constituents, which when combined, provide resistance to a very wide range of chemicals while maintaining flexibility that allows it to absorb stress without micro-cracking, a common failure in conventional epoxy coatings.

“What originally drove the market was the need to be VOC-free and solvent free. Those needs remain paramount, but what is also coming to the fore now is performance with coast-effectiveness. Ecodur’s unparalleled longevity and ability to re-bond to itself at any time throughout the lifetime of the coating, making repairs very practical and effective.”
Roosen continued, “It has taken us more than two decades to appreciate and understand the enormous advantages the unique chemistry of Ecodur affords us in the marketplace. It is as equally brilliant as a solid product such as decorative mouldings and shingles, as it is a highly chemical resistant coating on steel and concrete. On cellulosic materials, it actually bonds at the molecular level.”

Castagra Products Inc., which has its headquarters in Reno, Nevada, has its main toll production facility in Houston in Texas. It is focussed on providing ultra-protective VOC-free, BPA-free, non-toxic coatings for flooring, roofing, water and waste water industries and oil, gas, frac production water storage tanks and pipes.
