What is Ethanol?
Ethanol is an additive that is commonly made from sugar cane or corn. It has a variety of uses as a solvent for human contact like, scents, flavorings, colorings, and medicine. It has a long history as a fuel for heat and light.
Ethanol Facts

  • As early as 1840, it was used as a lamp fuel in the US.
  • Used as car fuel back in 1908 when the Ford Model T was able to run on gas or ethanol.

Featured Ethanol Coating Project
In November 2014, Ecodur 201 was used at a state-of-the-art 40 million gallon dry mill ethanol plant in Weld County, Colorado. The plant has a small water canal that runs down the centre of the mill. Unfortunately, when the plant was first built, the canal’s concrete surface was not coated in a protective coating.
And overtime, the rapid passage of water had eroded the concrete and left a very bumpy, irregular surface of exposed aggregate, which could have potentially interrupted production for a lengthy amount of time if the condition worsened without the proper maintenance.
Ecodur 201 was used to stop the deterioration. It was decided that the base should be one of foamed Ecdour to fill the crevices in order to provide a smooth top coating of regular Ecodur.

The foamed Ecodur and the top coat both set within 30 minutes with a final cure time of 24 hours, at which point a final inspection was performed and the water channel was returned to service.
Ecuador is VOC-free, robust, waterproof, and neutral to chemicals. And as an added bonus, Ecodur has a potable ANSI/NSF 61 rating for use with potable water.
