5 New Year’s Resolutions for Oil and Gas Professionals

‘Tis the season to be jolly, drink a lot of eggnog and be around certain family members you dislike. It’s also the time to make New Year’s resolutions.
A New Year’s resolution is basically the same as leftover turkey after Christmas. On day one it seems amazing, but on day five, you are bored, a little confused and want to throw any remnants of it off your balcony.
So I took it upon myself to write you five unique New Year’s resolutions that will change the way you look at resolutions forever.
Here are my top 5 New Year’s resolutions for oil and gas professionals:
1) Relax more
Dreamweaver Glasses
Working on oil and gas rigs can be one of the most dangerous jobs in the world, so it’s not surprising if you’ve been feeling a little stressed in 2014. Luckily, there is a solution.
Research shows that meditation is one of the most effective ways to decrease stress levels. If you want to relax more in 2015 without the effort of actually meditating, check out the Deepak Chopra Dreamweaver glasses which use sounds and lights that easily put you into a calming, meditative state instantly.
2) Use more wearable technology
Wearable technology has taken the oil and gas industry by storm. So why is wearable technology such a hit? Well, it can drastically increase worker safety, decrease costs, and let’s face it, it looks pretty cool too.
Make 2015 the year where you wear more computers on your body such as Google Glass to increase your safety and at the very least to predict what the weather forecast will be that day.
3) Sleep better
Sleep Cycle
If your job involves working nights or sleeping very little, you may want to increase the amount of shuteye you get. If that isn’t realistic, you could just make the sleep you do get a lot more efficient.
Sound difficult? It doesn’t have to be with the free smartphone app Sleep Cycle. The smart app monitors your sleep cycle and wakes you during your lightest phase of sleep. Regardless of whether you’ve slept a lot or a little, you will wake up feeling a lot more alert and awake.
4) Get fitter
TRX Training
If you travel a lot for your job, or don’t have time to go to the gym, it can be difficult to stay fit. That’s why TRX training is one of the best solutions for easy and quick fitness.
TRX is a simple band that can be wrapped around trees, doorframes or anything sturdy. All you need is your body weight and the band to reach supreme fitness. It is the perfect addition in your suitcase for oil and gas exploration trips or outdoor destination jobs.
5) Invent something new
There’ve been some pretty cool inventions in oil and gas recently such as turning plastic bags into oil or turning old oil rig survival pods into hotels.
What is something you can invent? Perhaps a vintage oil truck that can be transformed into a cat café, or a repurposed oil rig transformed into a holiday home for you and your family? 2015 is the year to really let your imagination run wild.
