Storage Tank Heating Options for Winter Coating Application

Keeping your tank coating and maintenance operations going in the middle of winter can be frustrating and time-consuming for many factors, but none more so than maintaining a consistent temperature of the tank storage. If temperatures drop to freezing and you are not using a specialized cold weather coating, the application of coating material becomes difficult or impossible.
Fortunately you have a few options on the market for you to choose from, like mobile industrial heaters.
The equipment
At Castagra, we use Ecodur 201 all year-round to coat tanks because of its ability to work well in cold weather conditions and its ability to adhere and maintain its flexibility to the tank’s surface over its entire lifespan. But if you don’t use Ecodur 201, there are other options on the market for you to choose from, like mobile industrial heaters.
Which heater is right for you?
Electric Heater

Electric Heaters
Electric heaters provide clean dry heat, which is essential when it is necessary to have no moisture present in the environment. Also, gas heaters may be prohibited or may not be the right unit for the job.

In-Line Heatersource

In-Line Heaters
If you’re concerned about temperatures falling below a certain degree, an in-line heater, along with a dehumidifier, will increase temperatures and keep them at a constant. The dehumidifier takes ambient air, runs it through the desiccant wheel and exhausts it out the other side of the unit. Then, the duct from the dehumidifier runs into the in-line heater and that air crosses the heating coils, raising the temperature. The air is now dehumidified and heated and now enters the space.

Indirect Fired-Heaterssource

Indirect Fired Heaters
One of the most popular ways to add heat, indirect fired heaters provide clean dry heated air that is free of combustion byproducts and moisture. They are installed outside so the warm air travels through the duct and into the area that needs to be heated. It’s also mobile, so you can move it anywhere.

And once you’ve chosen the right heater for you, breathe and just remember that the cold won’t last forever and spring is only a few short months away.
