Does Your Company Have a Sustainability Campaign?

Does your company have a sustainability campaign? If so, do you embrace the movement and really get behind it?

Here at Castagra, we do our best to lower our carbon footprint by practicing and encouraging sustainability techniques for all employees. For starters, we use very little paper. Instead, we have embraced technology and now log and track everything like work files, invoices, To-Dos, and schedules by using online business tools. The advantages to this are that paper and precious resources are saved, there’s very little to physically carry, and access to files can be done from anywhere with a reliable Internet connection.

It’s a great feeling knowing that every month paper isn’t used to print out bill statements because every little conscious step counts towards preserving the environment. Another bonus to going paper-less is that it can help de-clutter valuable storage space and help people stay more organized.

But the Catch-22 here is that we’re using a lot of energy in order to save trees. And like all resources, energy will eventually dwindle ¬– unless alternatives are introduced.

How do you get to work? If you work from home, you’re already at the top of the game in reducing your carbon footprint. Taking public transportation and cycling are the two ideal choices in safeguarding the environment, but if you must drive, carpool with co-workers or sign-up for a carpool service to get more cars off the road. And some municipalities have even taken on initiatives that encourage people to travel smart by taking one fewer car trip every week.

At the office, some people take public transportation because busses and commuter trains run frequently in their area. The advantages of taking public transportation are: one less car on the road and not having to deal with traffic. Leave the headache to the bus driver. The only downside is the waiting and foreign smells that attack your nostrils.

And what we practice in the office also shows on the job field. Our protective tank coatings are made from castor bean – which produces the castor oil we use in our coatings – and gypsum. It is also VOC and solvent free, which keep workers and the environment healthy.

We know we are doing our part to preserve the environment, but it’s still not enough. As a company and individuals, there is still room for improvement.
