Types of Storage Tanks

There are many different types of storage tanks used for storing a wide variety of different substances – let’s take a look!

Fuel Tanks

A fuel tank is a storage container for flammable fluids typically used to store fuel for motorized vehicles. Fuel tanks can be found under ground and above ground in large and small storage facilities ready for transport for both commercial and general public use. The most common fuel tank can be found in the everyday automobile. Below is an image of fuel tanks being prepared for the mighty B52 bomber.

Chemical Storage Tanks

A chemical storage tank contains some of the most aggressive and corrosive chemicals produced. These chemicals are highly toxic and each chemical storage tank must be built using very strict guidelines for each chemical used for that storage tank. They come in a wide variety of shapes and sizes and are used for not only storing but also for processing, mixing, and transporting.

Septic Tanks

A septic tank is part of a small-scale sewage treatment system used mostly in a residential setting with what is commonly called a septic system. Neighborhoods in rural areas with no connections to main sewage systems usually rely on septic systems to dispose of daily waste. The following image is a partially buried septic tank that is being installed.

Liquefied Gas Tanks

Liquefied gas tanks, also known as liquid petroleum gas or simply propane or butane, is fuel used in heating appliances and vehicles, or used as an aerosol propellant and a refrigerant.

Waste Storage and Containment Tanks

Waste storage and containment tanks are used to collect waste from industrial operations. There are strict hazardous waste guidelines that must be followed, which state that containers must have side walls and a roof to protect the containers from the weather.
