We all know that oil and gas is a tremendously big industry. Let’s take a look at the ten largest oil and gas companies, as well as the countries with the highest oil reserves*.

 

Starting with the ten largest oil and gas companies, we’re looking at the year they’re founded, where they’re headquartered, how many millions of barrels of oil they produce, and how many individuals they employ:

 

1. Saudi Aramco

Founded in 1933 and headquartered in Dharan, Saudi Arabia, Saudi Aramco is the largest oil and gas company, producing 12.5 million barrels of oil in 2012. In the same year, annual revenue was $356 billion and they employed 62,000 individuals in 2011.

2. Gazprom

Founded in 1933 and headquartered in Moscow, Riussia, Gazprom produced 9.7 million barrels of oil in 2012. In 2011, annual revenue was $158 billion and they employed 393,000 individuals in 2012.

3. National Iranian Oil

Founded in 1948 and headquartered in Tehran, Iran, Ntional Iranian Oil produced 6.4 million barrels of oil in 2012. In 2010, annual revenue was $85 billion and they employed 41,000 individuals in 2011.

4. Exxonmobil

Founded in 1999 and headquartered in Texas, USA, Exxonmobile produced 5.3 million barrels of oil in 2012. In the same year, annual revenue was $453 billion and they employed 76,900 individuals.

5. Petrochina

Founded in 1999 and headquartered in Dongcheng D., Beijing, China, Petrochina produced 4.4 million barrels of oil in 2012. In 2011, annual revenue was CNY 2 trillion and they employed 552,800 individuals in 2011.

6. British Petroleum

Founded in 1909 and headquartered in London, UK, British Petroleum produced 4.1 million barrels of oil in 2012. In the same year, annual revenue was $388 billion and they employed 85,700 individuals.

7. Royal Dutch Shell

Founded in 1907 and headquartered in The Hague, Netherlands, Royal Dutch Shell produced 3.9 million barrels of oil in 2012. In the same year, annual revenue was $467 billion and they employed 87,000 individuals.

8. Petroleos Mexicanos

Founded in 1938 and headquartered in Mexico City, Mexico, Petroleos Mexicanos produced 3.6 million barrels of oil in 2012. In the same year, annual revenue was $126 billion and they employed 138,215 individuals in 2011.

Founded in 1984 and headquartered in California, USA, Chevron produced 3.5 million barrels of oil in 2012. In the same year, annual revenue was $231 billion and they employed 62,000 individuals.

10. Kuwait Petrol Corp

Founded in 1980 and headquartered in Al Shuwaikh, Al Asi., Kuwait, Kuwait Petrol Corp produced 3.2 million barrels of oil in 2012. In the same year, annual revenue was $104 billion and they employed 15,820 individuals.

1. Saudi Arabia

265 billion barrels (19.1%)

11.7 million barrels daily (13.2%)

Remaining reserves: 72.4 years

 

1. Venezuela

211 billion barrels (15.3%)

2.47 million barrels daily (2.8%)

Remaining reserves: 234.1 years

 

3. Iran

137 billion barrels (9.9%)

4.13 million barrels daily (4.13%)

Remaining reserves: 88.4 years

 

4. Iraq

115 billion barrels (8.3%)

2.7 million barrels daily (3.1%)

Remaining reserves: 128.1 years

 

5. Kuwait

102 billion barrels (7.3%)

2.75 million barrels daily (3.1%)

Remaining reserves: 110.9 years

 

Global oil reserves currently stand at 1.38 trillion barrels and are expected to last another 46 years.
